²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Classics Society Reception and Dinner, Saturday 25 January 2025
The ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Classics Society invites you, and guest, to its annual reception and dinner on Saturday 25 January 2025.
The evening will begin with a pre-dinner talk at 6.00pm in the McGregor Matthews room, followed by a drinks reception at 6.45pm in the Founder’s Library and a three-course dinner in Hall at 7.15pm.
The Society is delighted to confirm that the guest speaker will be Professor Llewelyn Morgan, Fellow of Brasenose ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, Oxford. Professor Morgan who will speak on “Some Greek and Latin from the Fin de Siècle.â€
This dinner is one of the main times in the year when students have the opportunity to meet and talk with Old Members, to share their experiences of Classics at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ.
Dress code is lounge suits or equivalent.

About the speaker:
Professor Llewelyn Morgan is a Fellow of Brasenose ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, Oxford, where he has taught since 1997. After studying in Oxford, and obtaining his PhD in Cambridge, he worked both in Pennsylvania and in the Republic of Ireland, before returning to Oxford. Professor Morgan specialises in Latin literature and has published works on a wide range of Roman authors, including his contributions to Oxford’s Very Short Introduction series, on Ovid and Horace. Aside from Roman literature, he has wider interests including Afghanistan, and Latin literature of the modern period, and he will be speaking on various aspects of a late-nineteenth-century Latin-language newspaper.
