In Memoriam: Christopher Allsopp

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Allsopp, Emeritus Fellow at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, Oxford. Chris was a treasured figure within the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ community, having served as a Tutorial Fellow in Economics for 41 years. He was a skilful and kind teacher of generations of our undergraduates who greatly admired him and were influenced by him.

In 2008 he became an Emeritus Fellow, and his continued presence here at Domus dinners, lunches and other events remained important to him until very recently – and a delight for us.

His contributions outside the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ were legion: from monetary policy to the role of statistics in policy making to economic forecasting – and, not least, as a Director of the Bank of England (1997-2000).

Chris leaves a lasting legacy among the economics community, within ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ, and among his many colleagues and students. His passing is a great loss to our community, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, particularly his wife Marian.

As a mark of respect, the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ flag is flying at half-mast in honor of Chris’s memory. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
