The amount you spend on your living costs will depend on where and on what you decide to spend your money, but you should certainly be able to make the most of your time here without spending too much. The University provides on the expected cost of living in Oxford, which we encourage students to check when considering their budget. We've also listed out top tips to saving money as a student. 
 

Top tips:

• Eating in the Hall can be one way to spend less money on food. There are also plenty of cheap alternatives nearby, such as the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Bar. Open most days, here you will find sandwiches, soft drinks, coffee and tea, and alcoholic drinks in the events, all at lower than average prices.

• Most shops, restaurants, cinema chains, and heritage sites will offer student discounts. You should be able to use your Bod Card to claim these discounts, but for those wanting to save more you could investigate buying an NUS Extra card. Always check if you can get a student discount before you pay!

• If you plan on travelling over the holiday period, find out if you're entitled to any travel grants from the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ and research whether buying an International Student Card would save you money while you are overseas.

• Some banks may offer certain deals to those opening a student bank account. It's important to do your research to ensure you're getting the best deal.

• Make the most of student budgeting websites like StudentBeans and Money Saving Expert, they offer great advice to students on how and where you can save your money.

• If budgeting doesn't come naturally, you may find an online student budget calculator useful. Budget calculators are offered by Brightside, UCAS, and Which? 

• Check the amount of maintenance you are entitled to from Student Finance. Eligible students will receive payments each term to help with living costs. 

The ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ has some funds to help students who face financial hardship, which can be offered alongside , government grants and Student Maintenance Loans.

• The ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ has various funds available to assist students in financial need, thanks to donation from Old Members (former students) and other supporters, such as the Keasbey Foundation
• Study grants are available for academic projects during the holidays.
• Vacation residence grants are available to allow you to stay in Oxford out of term to study.
• If a student encounters serious hardship arising from unforeseen circumstances during their course, the ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ is able to provide more substantial help.
