Philo of Alexandria (c. 20 BC–c. 50 AD), a member of a wealthy Jewish family, was well-educated in Greek literature and philosophy, and wrote in Greek. His many books dealt with biblical interpretation, philosophy, and the contemporary history of the Jewish citizens of Alexandria.
