Ewan Millar, a prominent young oboist and winner of the woodwind final of BBC Young Musician 2020, will perform a recital alongside rising Welsh pianist Tomos Boyles.

These artists' appearance is supported by funds kindly provided by The Tillett Trust as part of its DEBUT programme which aims to help young musicians of outstanding talent to achieve performance platforms in the early stages of their careers.

This concert is part of this term's Wanderlust series at The New Space, a captivating journey featuring solo recitals and ensembles that delves into the themes of nature, travel, folk traditions, song, and myth.

Ewan Millar
Ewan Millar won the woodwind final of BBC Young Musician in 2020, advancing to the Grand Final and giving an “exemplary, richly shaded account” (The Guardian) of Navarro’s “Legacy” concerto with the BBC Philharmonic.

Since the competition he has performed as a soloist across the UK and Europe, has played principal oboe with the RPO, Aurora Orchestra, and Britten Sinfonia, and has also performed with the Philharmonia, RLPO, London Concertante, and Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has been selected by both the Tillett Trust and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust as a Recital Artist and has been selected as a Foyle Future Firsts musician with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2024/25 season.

Tomos Boyles
Rising Welsh musician Tomos Boyles is rapidly carving out a career as a young and exciting concert pianist. Described as possessing a 'romantic flair and passion that only comes from intense involvement' (Carol Nixon, LMC), he has performed at numerous prestigious venues including St Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square, the Holywell Music Room, St David's Hall in Cardiff, and the Wales Millennium Centre.  

He has enjoyed success in competitions, having recently been awarded the first prize at the Wales International Piano Festival; this came with a generous scholarship to help fund future studies. Other top prizes include the Blue Ribband at the National Eisteddfod, and first place in the EPTA competition.
